Garage Storage Do’s and Don'ts

Image
You just moved. You have piles and piles of boxes from your old house that you just can’t seem to deal with yet. What do you do? Chances are you pile them in a corner of the garage to be dealt with later. Some things can safely be stored in a garage for a long time. Other things, not so much. Keep your new home safe by properly storing things in the right place.  A few items that you should NOT store in a garage include extra fuel, paint or chemicals, furniture, clothing, food, and valuable items. Fuel and chemicals are always a no-no. This risks a possible fire in your home as well as the creation of dangerous fumes.  If however your garage is completely climate controlled, it may be perfectly fine to store furniture and general household items in your garage.  Avoid storing food in your garage. If you have a chest freezer, yes, that is fine. But storing food on shelving in your garage invites rodents to have a picnic at your expense. Avoid storing food in your garage.

SRES Certification

I’m excited to announce that I now have the SRES certification! SRES means I am now a Seniors Real Estate Specialist.   The SRES designation helps me to work with real estate clients that are 50+. I now know distinguishing characteristics and trends of the 50+ market so that I can discern them in your own market area. I know the federal laws for Housing for Older Persons Act (HOPA). I can help to recognize how a home can be adapted for safety, comfort, and aging in place. In addition, I know about the uses, benefits, procedures, and issues involved in reverse mortgages. I also can help with using pensions, 401k accounts, and IRAs in real estate transactions, and have a thorough understanding of how Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security impact 50+ real estate decisions. I’m looking forward to working more extensively with adults 50 and over in helping them to realize their real estate dreams! Please call me today for more info at 610-372-0212.
